Opal graduated from the University
of Waterloo with a Mathematics degree specializing in Computer Science. She worked for 15 years in the high tech field before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She discovered her love for romance after having her first child. Soon after, she started writing romances in several genres: contemporary, futuristic, and urban fantasy.
In April 2003, she sold her first book to New Concepts Publishing and since then has published over a dozen stories with New Concepts Publishing and Loose Id writing under her legal name Elizabeth Batten-Carew.
In 2006, her dream of selling to a large New York publisher came true when St. Martin’s Press offered her a 3 book deal under the pen name Opal Carew. Her first book, an erotic romance called TWIN FANTASIES, will be released in July 2007, quickly followed by SWING in January 2008. Her third book, not yet titled, will hit the bookshelves in July 2008.
Opal loves crystals, dragons, feathers, cats, pink hair, the occult, Manga artwork, and all that glitters. She currently lives with her husband Mark and two teenage sons in the outskirts of Ottawa Canada.
